Course Descriptions

Day 1: A Practical & Simple Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment for the General Practitioner: A Hands-On Course

Course Summary:

In this course, the general dentist will receive detailed instruction as well as a hands-on portion on how pediatric dentists treat many common orthodontic problems with techniques that can be done in the office. Specific topics to be covered include: 

  • How to do an orthodontic exam and what that information means
  • Primary vs permanent teeth ideal occlusion
  • The preferred sequence of eruption of primary and permanent teeth
  • Diagnosis and managing ankylosis of primary teeth and congenitally missing permanent teeth
  • Diagnosing and early treatment of space management, anterior cross-bites, and posterior cross-bites
  • Indications and contraindications for simple appliances such as maxillary expansion appliances, correcting single tooth maxillary lingual cross-bites, habit breaking appliances, and space maintainers  
  • The role of enlarged tonsils and airway issues in malocclusion
  • Diagnosing common eruption problems from multiple panorexes

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will learn:

  • Understand the management and treatment of agenesis and ankylosis cases how to diagnose and treat anterior and posterior cross-bites and thumb/tongue habits
  • Diagnose and treat common eruption problems by way of multiple panorexes
  • Know the indications and contraindications for space maintainers
  • Recognize when a case should be referred to the orthodontist

The Hands-on portion will include:

  • An interactive session of diagnosing and interpreting eruption problems from multiple panorexes
  • Placing bands and taking impressions for a space maintainer on a typodont and writing a prescription for each of the common interceptive appliances

Day 2: A Hands-On Course in Pulp Therapy & Restorative Dentistry in Pediatric Dentistry

This course will cover the latest pulp therapy techniques in primary teeth and the use of new dental restorative materials in Pediatric Dentistry. The topic of pulp therapy will include Biodentine pulpotomies, Cvek pulpotomies for dental trauma, indirect pulp caps with GIC, and the Hall Technique. The restorative component will discuss new composites and their use in the Slot Prep, SDF (Silver Diamine Fluoride), and when to use SDF for SMART (Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Technique).

Objectives:

  •  List and describe the steps and indications for a Biodentine pulpotomy
  •  Know the indications, contraindications, and the steps for an indirect pulp cap
  •  Describe the steps for a Slot Prep using GIC and new restorative materials
  •  List and describe the steps of the Hall technique
  •  Describe the indications and the steps for Silver Diamine Fluoride and when to use the SMART Technique 

Learning Goals:

  •  Attendees will learn the indications and the steps for an MTA/Biodentine pulpotomy
  •  Attendees will learn the indications and the steps for a GIC indirect pulp cap
  •  Attendees will learn the indications for a Slot Prep and use new restorative materials for the open and closed sandwich technique in primary and permanent teeth.
  •  Attendees will learn when to use the Hall technique in primary teeth
  •  Attendees will learn the advantages of SDF and when to use only SDF and when to incorporate the SMART technique

In the Hands-on part of the course:

  •  Attendees will do a Biodentine pulpotomy on dentoform teeth with ‘pulps’
  • Attendees will do a slot prep on dentoform teeth and restore it with new composites using the Garrison Matrix System

Cancellation - MasterTrack 2020

NCAGD reserves the right to cancel the 2020 October MasterTrack at the Solution Center within 24 hours before the start of the course. A full credit or refund will be issued.

Due to our commitment to instructors, materials and other attendees, the following refund policy applies:

A 100% refund or credit of your registration fee will be issued if an event is canceled by NCAGD.

A 100% refund or credit towards the next MasterTrack program (less $25.00 admin fee) will be issued if you cancel your registration more than sixty full days (August 3, 2020) before the event start time. You may call 404-299-7700 or [email protected] to cancel.

A 75% refund or credit towards the next MasterTrack program (less $25.00 admin fee) will be issued if you cancel your registration between fifty-nine and thirty full days (August 2 - September 2, 2020) before the event start time.

A 50% refund or credit towards the next MasterTrack program (less $25.00 admin fee) will be issued if you cancel your registration between twenty-nine and fourteen full days ( September 1 - September 18, 2020) before the event start time.

A 25% refund or credit towards the next MasterTrack program (less $25.00 admin fee) will be issued if you cancel your registration between thirteen and seven full days (September 19- September 25, 2020) before the event start time.

No refunds or credits will be issued within 48 hours prior to the start of an event or after an event has started, regardless of attendance.

*The term “event” includes all MasterTrack activities such as lectures, seminars, workshops, and hands on participation.

Cancellations will be handled according to the extenuating circumstances, and registrations that were already canceled will not be reconsidered.
